When you buy a house it is an investment so you want to not only get the house you like but a house that will appreciate in value. One way Houston residents buy houses on the cheap is by visiting foreclosure websites and county courthouse home auctions. When people fail to pay their property taxes they end up having their home taken from them and made available via a city auction or a low buying price. Foreclosure websites will provide homes for sell at a low asking price and government home foreclosure websites will generally have homes for sale at some of the cheapest prices you could imagine. When browsing through government HUD home foreclosures you will find some good deals but keep in mind other people can bid on the house. If your maximum bid price is not as good as someone else who is looking at the house you could be outbid. Many times you can find just as good of a deal for the price when buying from a real estate agent then if you were to buy at auction or through a home for sale by owner. I have seen several for sale by owner homes that wanted more for their house then a house just down the road wanted that was being sold by a reputable Houston real estate agent.
